So I’ve had a website for a while, but never did anything with it or promote it. I think it is time that I start changing that.

As some of you know from my Facebook page, I’ve had a full manuscript request for my debut novel “The Night Crew”. What does that mean exactly? Well that means I sent a publishing company 3 things.

1) a query letter. This is a brief letter where I talk about the book in very broad terms such as it’s a horror book that is 65,000 words that deals with issues of anger and revenge, I give a brief hook such as his wife dies and she was killed by a vampire, then I tell a little about me like I love reading and writing.

2) a synopsis. This is a 2 page readers digest version of the 300 page book. These are always hard to write because after writing the book and all the twists and turns, you want to put all those intricacies in the synopsis but you can’t. You don’t have space for that.

3) the first few pages of the book. How does my actual writing pan out.

I sent those 3 things and after a few weeks, they wanted to read the whole book. Now I’m in the waiting game. I’ve been following the publisher for a bit now and reading some of the other authors. I’m even friends with a few on Facebook now. I think I’d be a good fit but that’s for the company to decide. Fingers crossed.

Worst case scenario, if they say no, I’ll either send to a few more publishers and agents or I may just self publish. Either which way, I’m firing up the web page and the Facebook page. May even do some advertising. You may get sick of seeing Brad Ricks on your feeds. That’s fine. Just buy the books as they come out.

I’ll try to do some kind of blog at least once a month. Maybe something profound, maybe something about what I’m currently writing, traveling, or that I’m in Texas and it’s freaking hot outside.

Until next time, constant reader. Thanks and let’s get this thing going.
